There is no denying the fact that Little Lady O is a Daddy’s Girl. He walks into a room and her whole face lights up. He can make her smile and laugh like no one else can. As a mom and wife, it’s beautiful for me to watch them together.
My husband’s annual training for the National Guard lined up a week before Father’s Day; I had the perfect time to help Little Lady O create a surprise for her papa! Last year, she was only 6-months old so she wasn't able to create anything for him. Over the past year, she’s been able to get more into painting and creating – thanks a lot in part to the wonderful teachers at day care! I found many great ideas on Pinterest for different Father’s Day crafts but saw one particular idea that fit my angler husband perfectly – “I’m hooked on Daddy!”
This was an extremely easy craft to create with the little lady that would be a fun decoration in the dining room on Father’s Day. You could apply this concept to any type of craft (poster, card, plate, mug, etc.). As you can see from the photos below, I had O go wild with the blue paint to create the water - for a girl who does not enjoy getting dirty, I was surprised to see her enjoy this part so much! We than did her hand print in three different colors. That evening, when she was in bed and everything was dry, I went to work on putting the sign together:
- Added seaweed using green paint and a small foam brush;
- Cut out her hand-prints and added googly eyes;
- Using my Cricut, I cut out the saying “I’m hooked on Daddy!” and then glued it down.
*A tip I learned from the day care teachers for finger painting was to mix the paint with a couple drops of dish soap before the kid(s) go at it - this makes cleaning their hands (and where-ever else it got on them!) so much easier! Also, you can see that my OCD/clean freak took over and I had the whole table and floor under the table covered with plastic, not only did it ensure the paint wouldn't get on our dining table or rug, it made clean-up really easy.
The night before Father’s Day, after my husband left for work, I got to work on decorating the dining room! I hung up O’s sign, added a few coordinating flower pom-poms to the light fixture, and wrapped up his gift. The following morning, we both got up early, got dressed and met him at the door to start his Father’s Day off right! He was very surprised and loved seeing the handmade craft from his baby girl.
Also pictured are the mini apple pie pockets that O and I made for him that afternoon while he slept. It was adorable to see them sitting at the table that evening sharing a dessert she baked for him.
